Mr. Nguyen Duy Nam - Director of the No. 5 Construction Design Consultancy Enterprise, along with representatives of agencies and related units, performed the groundbreaking ceremony.
On December 27th, the groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and restoration of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and People's Council headquarters took place at 86 Le Thanh Ton Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee headquarters, formerly known as Hôtel de ville, was built at the end of the 19th century and was once the center of power in Saigon. Since the reunification of Vietnam, the building has served as the workplace of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, and other agencies.
Perspective view of the project
Designed by architect Fernand Gardè, the building is modeled after the Paris City Hall with a northern French bell tower style, featuring a central pointed tower and two symmetrical gabled roofs on either side, lower than the rest of the building. The Vietnamese flag flies above the building. There is a basement below the building.
The headquarters is built on a total land area of 9,451.95m², with Block A, Block B, and auxiliary facilities. The project will focus on upgrading the two existing buildings. Block A will be completely rearranged, equipped with modern furniture, creating a comfortable and efficient workspace. Meanwhile, Block B will be comprehensively repaired and renovated, from auxiliary facilities to the landscape, aiming to bring a new, more spacious look. The construction progress is estimated at 240 days.
